If you go down to the woods today…. you could be having whole lot of fun with your little ones with a Teddy Bear’s Picnic
Make the most of the Summer weather, get some friends together and plan a great day for the children, their teddies and yourselves!
Musical Minis have put together a guide to organising a Teddy Bear’s Picnic at home this Summer. Taking inspiration from the parties they organise across the UK every year, attended by hundreds of children and parents, the parties include making teddy bear ears, songs to sing, food to eat and a picture of a teddy bear to colour in. So roll out the blanket and get ready (and if it’s wet...hold it inside!)
Picnic Invitation ideas
Cut out a shape of a teddy bear on stiff card, let your child paint/decorate it and deliver to guests. . Buy or make a cardboard label, write the details of the event, time, date, phone number to RSVP and stick it on the front of the teddy invitation and deliver to the guests. Make sure you ask them to bring their favourite teddy to the picnic too.
Food
Buy a teddy bear shaped cutter to make cookies, decorating their tummies with blobs of icing and chocolate buttons then use the cutter to cut out shaped sandwiches using your favourite fillings. Teddy bear shaped crisps look great too.
The setting
Inside or out, lay the ground with a rug, sheet, or just use a towel and add cushions to sit on. Don’t forget to leave space for your honoured teddy bear guests.
Activities
Making your teddy bear ears. Using this shape and some fairly strong paper or thin card, get the children to colour in/decorate the ears, then glue or staple A to B.
Sing up!
When everyone’s got their ears on it’s time to sing the Teddy Bear song. Here’s some Teddy Bear themed lyrics, perfect for your picnic!
Teddy bear, teddy bear turn around
Teddy bear, teddy bear touch the ground
Teddy bear, teddy bear show your shoe
Teddy bear, teddy bear that will do.
Teddy bear, teddy bear climb the stairs
Teddy bear, teddy bear say your prayers
Teddy bear, teddy bear turn off the light
Teddy bear, teddy bear say goodnight.
Get colouring
Keep the little ones entertained with some teddy colouring. Use this simple template to draw your own teddy outlines on sheets of paper, or let your printer do the work!!
Leaving presents
As a memory of the day, take a group photo of all the children, with their teddies and ‘ears’ on, print them out on photo paper while they play and pop them in a cheap frame which you’ve written the date and occasion on the back.
